The teaching portfolio is a collection of materials and artefacts selected to document, summarize, and highlight one’s growth, experiences, and strengths as a teacher, lecturer or facilitator ; and also a means to document, reflect upon, and improve your teaching and your students’ learning.
A Teaching Portfolio can also be defined as a concept as a way to demonstrate one’s teaching credentials to colleagues, Faculty Heads and potential employers. Individuals and/or departments may also use Teaching Portfolios for other uses such as a means for assessment and development of courses, a tool for designing lecturer developmental programs, a way to compare individuals for teaching awards, for contract renewals and for documenting general departmental teaching effectiveness. (Rodriguez-Farrar,2006).
As from 2011, it is expected that all CLASS LECTURER's create their teaching portfolio as an electronic portfolio.. Based on research into the implementation of electronic portfolios (Barret, H ; Burke, K et al.;Schaefer,G.; UBC). The following benefits appear to result from developing an electronic portfolio
-
Technology skills
-
Development
-
Portbility
-
Accessibility
-
Media richness
-
Ease of repurposing
-
Control of access
-
Organisational ability
